Laura Chavarría Rojas

Attorney

Hi, I’m Laura Chavarría, a lawyer with over 15 years of experience, graduated with honors as a result of my academic dissertation based on my internships at the Central America Court of Justice in Nicaragua; I have a Master’s Degree in International Law from Universidad de Chile and Heidelberg completed in 2005.

Throughout my career I have gained experience in handling highly-complex immigration procedures, both for individuals and legal entities, with an outstanding resolution record of approved cases.

My passion for Immigration Law, a field in which I specialize, comes to a large extent from my own experience as an immigrant, as when I was young I lived firsthand the entire process that comes from starting from scratch in an unknown country.

Since 2018 I am part of the Immigration Commission of the Costa Rican Bar Association. Thanks to my well-established negotiation and leadership skills, I was certified asConciliator and Mediator of the Costa Rican Bar Association back in 2016, a certification that was qualified by the DINARAC (National Alternative Dispute Resolution Office) in March 2017.

My devotion to the immigration field has been so intense that in 2020 I decided to create and coordinate the Inter-Institutional Commission of Immigration Affairs of the Costa Rican Bar Association, a commission I preside to date. As from that moment I have beenactively engaged as Chairwoman of the Commission, keeping a consistent and direct communication with senior level officers of the General Immigration Office.

My altruistic spirit has given me the opportunity to help large pro-immigrant associations on a pro bono basis, including: HIAS, AlianzaVENCR, among others.

Experience in other fields:

I also have international experience working as business analyst for a software development company in South Africa, serving regulated markets for a number of European countries.

I have also served as consultant for the Institute for Transnational Studies based in Germany. Offering a risk assessment service particularly focused on politics, social and economic development in Latin America, providing a thorough perspective on critical issues for institute’s clients.

My essence :
I am an empowered woman who is passionate about her profession, enjoys life and the challenges that life poses; one of the things I enjoy the most about my work and that drives me to be better is that I can help people by providing solutions to their different situations.

I zealously practice tolerance and respect everyone else’s opinions, and I’m completely sure that if all of us, regardless of our skin color, religious beliefs or sexual orientation, incorporate these two components into our daily lives we would manage to build a more harmonious society together.
